Advisor Interview
Ever wanted to meet your favorite advisor? Get to know her or him a bit better? From time to time we will bring you interviews with PsychicCenter advisors. Here is where you can read how they found out what special gifts they have, how they developed their skills, and why we think they are so good at guiding us on our life path. If this interview inspires you, just give them a call.
How and when did you first find out about your 'psychic abilities'?
In early childhood. Some of my earliest memories are of seeing ghosts and talking with them. I remember very clearly the day I realized the adults and other children were genuinely afraid of ghosts. I didn't see why, but it clearly was not something I could simply ask my parents about. This question started me trying to understand human motivation and perception (especially why I could see things others could not), which I'm still passionate about 40 years later.
How was it growing up with these special skills. Are they natural talents or did you study and develop them?
Both. My natal Moon and Saturn are conjunct in Pisces, in the 12th house. Between early childhood and my late teens, I was intensely curious about so-called supernatural phenomena. As I developed, I became increasingly aware that I was unable to turn off my oracle, so as I transitioned from high school to college, I joined a few of the esoteric groups New Orleans was known for and took a job at the New Orleans' Historic Voodoo Museum. These experiences helped me learn to gain some control over the constant influx of imagery I was bombarded with, give it a structure, and eventually learn to direct it in a way that was a help and not a hindrance. Later I studied Shamanism under Pomo Natives in Northern California, and took initiation in several other modern esoteric societies. My work in established groups has been invaluable for my development, by helping me learn to stay focused, consistent, and in control of my energies.
Do you think anyone can develop psychic skills?
Yes. I think it's like being good at math, or business, or art, or basketball, or anything else. Everyone can do it to some extent, some have a natural aptitude, and some of those dedicate part of their lives to it as a craft.
What type of mentality do you think it takes to develop these skills?
From the things you eat, to events on the other side of the planet and beyond, there are a variety of social pressures influencing us to think a certain way, and the direction we are influenced in is often idiosyncratic. To develop psychic skills, one must be able to resist these influences, and let one's own vision take form. As Confucius said: "To know what you know, and know what you do not know, this is true knowledge".
Are you able to turn your psychic abilities 'on' or 'off' when you want to? Do you have any rituals to turn them 'on'.
I do a traditional grounding, centering, and opening ritual rooted in the Qabala and early Christian (Gnostic) mysticism every day on awakening. On days that I'm reading, I add a more complex rite, also from the Qabala, and invoking the Christian Archangels. I do not always have an easy time "turning my oracle off". My main focus when I'm reading is to remain centered so I can communicate what I see effectively.
How did you get into doing psychic readings?
I learned it as a teenager growing up in New Orleans' French Quarter.
What happens during a psychic reading?
Generally I start by asking my clients whether they are looking for something specific, or whether they are just in for a general reading. I psychically sort of 'scan' the person during this preliminary discussion, and most often pull cards to give the the impressions I receive some sort of form or structure. Very frequently, clients (myself included) want a reading when they are caught up in life's struggles, so the wind-down often involves explaining how the answers to their specific questions relate to the bigger picture.
What is your primary tool for divination? What is your specialty?
I like to think my specialty is getting people the perspective they need to get through life's struggles, and not act against their own best interests for a lack of information. My primary tool is the Tarot, as it was the Crowley Tarot with which I learned the basics of divination, mythology, and the esoteric arts as a teenager. However, as noted above, I believe any tool only gives a more concrete form to the impressions that come to the psyche.
Can you communicate with spirits who have passed on?
Yes. It is most frequent that they reveal themselves to me, rather than appearing at my call. I have successfully channeled at séances for clients, but for the most part my contact with the spirits of the departed occurs when I enter an area that serves as an anchor for some of them, usually they recognize me as friendly and reveal themselves. On rare occasions, they have passed on information that I needed but not because I have requested it. In short: the Dead speak to me when they have something to say, but I regard this as a gift, and do not presume upon it.
Is there anything else you'd like to share about your abilities or a good experience?
Yes. For the best experience, get yourself to a quiet place and take a few deep breaths before contacting me. I can read in almost any situation but when both my client and myself are grounded and centered, I can give results with respect to dates, times, and relevant background info that many have regarded as uncanny.
